It's our nature to want to help others, donations, making things, serving. This is the heart of being a Randolph County Indiana Extension Homemaker. #RandolphIEHA #HomemakersMakeADifference2017 We have many projects, raising money for projects or projects themselves. One of those projects is the #ThreadsOfCompassion (shawls for family who have given the gift of life) for the Indiana Donor Network #DonateLife.
This project was brought to our attention by our State Officers of Indiana Extension Homemakers. We have been making shawls ever since. Shawls are made by local members (and their friends and family too) and are collected at our quarterly council meetings and then are taken to our district meetings and on to the state level. Where they get packed into amazing places in a van or car of the state president and are delivered with joy to the Indiana Donor Network.
Recently through a local member, a grant from Royal Neighbors of America #ROYALdifference of $200 was awarded to purchase yarn to make more shawls. And is this isn't exciting enough (okay, some of us really, really like yarn anyway!) if we complete this project by Apr 30, the Indiana Donor Network will be placed in a drawing for an additional $500 grant. Isn't that great!
But we need volunteers to knit and crochet these shawls, calling all Extension Homemakers and their friends and family...Come and volunteer to work on a shawl for this project. Whirlwind....Workshops. At the Purdue Extension Office; March 21 8am-4pm; March 23 4pm-7pm; April 11 noon-7pm. Bring your lunch, snacks, and drinks, your own crochet hooks (G-K) and/or knitting needles (11-13). Patterns are provided but you can work your favorite pattern as well. All shawls need to be between 24 and 34 inches wide (shoulder to wrist) and 65 to 72 inches long (fringe is not included in this measurement). Red Heart Yarn (#4) Worsted Weight yarn was purchased for this project at our local Walmart #1480. (Thank You for your patience in getting all of this yarn)
T-shirts and other goodies will be handed out during the workshops. Pictures will be taken for documentation and promotion and publication.
Don't know where the extension office is? It's at the Randolph County Indiana Fair Grounds, on US 27, 2 miles south of Winchester, Indiana.
We'll be in stitches all the time!
